With Covid-19 and social distancing measures, we are taking steps to ensure we continue to bring you the best content possible given the circumstances.  
 
We are learning to adapt to our new situation and this is Silvercore’s very first remote podcast.   We understand that these are difficult times for everyone and we want to be able to offer a little bit of respite from the day to day.  
 
While I haven’t said it outright in the past, perhaps now is as good a time as any to explain that every guest I have had on the show has been told the same thing.  That is, in a nutshell, “keep it positive”.  There is enough negativity in the world, and in particular surrounding hunting and firearms, that we will stay away from talking about negative politics, or anything that may have the tendency to be divisive or travel down that worn dark path.  
 
Here, we attract people who have a genuine passion for what they do and wish to share that passion with you.  Every podcast we record is done  with the end goal of educating and entertaining.  
 
Silvercore is a training company, that’s how we earn our keep. With Covid-19 for the safety of our staff and students, all of our in person training has been postponed.  
 
Until further notice, we are putting the emphasis on our online courses, club, podcast and YouTube videos.  We will be maintaining our podcast release schedule, and working to increase the frequency.  Now here is the part where I ask for your help.

Today I sit down with long time friend Marshall Lowen as he recounts growing up in rural Manitoba and his adventures and misadventures while hunting and trapping across Canada.  Marshall spent over 44 years serving his country as a member of the Canadian armed forces, he is a firearms instructor, hunter education instructor a proud member of Metis society and served as Vice President of the Vancouver Metis society for many years. Marshal now sits as an elder who has been bestowed with the honour and responsibility of being selected the Captain of the hunt.

In days of old, if you wanted to learn to hunt you would ask a friend or relative to show you.  In todays society not everyone has the opportunity and learning to hunt can be rather intimidating if you don’t have someone to show you the ropes.  Thats is what we talk about today with seasoned hunters Dennis Zentner and Jens Cuthbert.  
 
Dennis spent years in commercial fishing, is the past regional president of the British Columbia Wildlife Federation, is the current president of the Vancouver Gun Club, is a CORE Hunting instructor, and has been hunting and fishing for as long as he can remember. 
 
 Jens exudes passion and positivity towards hunting in every aspect of his life.  Having worked as a commercial hunting guide in the United States, Jens is a sponsored and endorsed hunter and has the fantastic Instagram feed “604backwoods” which will inspire even the most modest hunter.  Jens now works at Stillwater Sports in Ladner, B.C. and spends his working and free time honing his skills and helping others enjoy our great outdoors and natural resources.

Ep. 09: Now you‘re bleeding too bear!

Silvercore has been providing bear safety training to industry professionals, both in person as well as online, for many years, but this marks the first time that  I have had the opportunity to sit down and speak with someone who survived a horrific grizzly bear attack by using his pocket knife.  
 
For those of you who are following #silvercorepodcast on social media, you will know that I have been steadily building a custom podcast studio.  
If the audio sounds a bit different its because it was recorded on location as I travelled to meet Colin Dowler who was gracious enough to have me in his home and to share with you his harrowing experience of grit and tenacity.  
 
Colin wants to share his story to add to the knowledge base of bear behaviour and encounters so that you are better aware of potential dangers and to motivate you to become properly prepared and educated prior to entering into bear country.
